What we know about you

Data controller

Walid Rahmani, publisher of CUT. as an individual. For any question, or to exercise your rights: contact@wrahmani.fr. The app's data is hosted by Supabase, Inc., 970 Toa Payoh North, Singapour — serveurs en Irlande; the site, by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, États-Unis.

In short

CUT. needs very little to work. Your lists follow you from one device to another, which requires an account. The rest — what you watch, what you search for — serves the app, not an advertising market. We sell no data.

The website

This site sets no analytics cookie and no advertising cookie. If you join the waitlist, we keep only your email address, with our sending provider, for the sole purpose of telling you when the app is released. You can unsubscribe at any time from any message you receive, or by writing to us.

The app

The data below is only processed if you create an account. The app is usable without one, with lists kept on the device alone.

  • Account — email address and display name, through Supabase Auth. The app is usable without an account: a guest session is opened instead, with no email and no name.
  • Your lists — favourites, to watch, watching, finished. Stored in a Postgres database hosted by Supabase, in Ireland, and attached to your account.
  • Preferences — favourite genres, services you subscribe to, people you follow. Used to compose the « For you » and « On my services » reels.
  • Profile picture — optional. If you upload one, it is kept in Supabase Storage under an address derived from your account identifier. Only you can replace it, but the file is served publicly: anyone who knows its address can display it. Don't upload an image you wouldn't publish. Deleting it, or deleting your account, removes it for good.
  • CUT+ purchase — a one-time payment, never a subscription. It is handled end to end by the App Store: we see neither your payment methods nor your Apple Account.
  • Device — on sign-in, a device record is attached to your account: it carries your alert preferences and, if you allowed notifications, the token the system assigns to the app. Without that token, no new-episode alert can reach you. The record is deleted as soon as you sign out.

What we don't do

  • No sale or transfer of data to third parties.
  • No advertising tracking, no targeting identifier.
  • No access to your photo library beyond the single image you explicitly choose as your avatar.

Notifications

The app only asks for permission to notify you at the moment it has a purpose: when you add a title to your lists that hasn't been released yet. You can turn everything off in iOS settings at any time.

The two families of alert don't work the same way, and the difference concerns you. Release reminders are dated in advance and scheduled on your device: they involve no server and work offline. New-episode alerts and the weekly summary are sent by our server, which therefore has to know which series you follow and which device to address. Turning them off inside the app stops the sending at the source, not just the display.

Film and TV metadata

Title pages, posters and trailers come from the TMDb API. The requests don't travel from your device to TMDb: they go through our server, which relays them. TMDb therefore doesn't see your IP address, only ours. The posters and images themselves are loaded directly from TMDb's servers, which do receive your IP address like any service called from your device. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.

The Letterboxd and Rotten Tomatoes ratings shown on title pages follow the same path: our server fetches them, never your device, and the result is cached for everyone. Neither Letterboxd nor Rotten Tomatoes receives anything from you — not your IP address, not what you look at. Letterboxd is a trademark of Letterboxd Limited; Rotten Tomatoes and Tomatometer are trademarks of Fandango Media, LLC. CUT. is affiliated with neither, and endorsed by neither.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting the account from inside the app erases your lists, your preferences and your avatar. You can also write to us at contact@wrahmani.fr to request access, rectification, portability or erasure of your data, under the GDPR.
