Laughs

What comedy should you watch tonight?

Nobody has the same sense of humour. That's what makes comedy impossible to recommend on a rating.

A comedy rated 8 out of 10 by thousands of people can leave you cold from beginning to end, while an average one gives you a great evening. Comedy is the genre where the average of opinions tells you least: there's no such thing as objectively successful humour, only humour that lands for you or doesn't.

What humour is, though, is instantly recognisable. The rhythm of a line, the timing of a punchline, the way an actor plays it: ten seconds is enough to know whether it's your register. That is precisely what CUT. shows you first, rather than a summary and a score.

The "Laugh differently" mood separates three grounds that aren't aimed at the same audience at all: action comedy, which runs on pace and situations; romantic comedy, carried by its characters; and family comedy, which has to work for several ages at once — the hardest case, and the one where getting it wrong costs most.
